TOPIC: FLS 1502 Study Guide

FLS 1502 Study Guide 3 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 2
Hey,

I'm a first year LLB student. just passed fls1501.
My second semester subjects are fls1502, fac1503, scl1502

compared to fls 1501, fls1502 study guide is kind of diffucult to study. I find it complicated, it could have been done simpler. lol

should we know all the latin terms?

Any of you who have done this module or currently busy with it, also find it difficult to study?

good luck

Jeff

Hi there, welcome to the LLB world!

This is a super strange module and it is tough to wrap your mind around....have you checked out the "Resources" tab on SNW? If you look at previous papers it will give you a good idea of the type of questions that are asked and that does help narrow down what to focus on. The latin terms are very relevant to passing not only this module but actually understanding future modules as you go along...hence "foundations" of law. To help motivate you with momentum in this, I would highly recommend going through previous papers as there are some trends that jump out with the type of questions you'll need to be able to answer in your exam.

Good luck!

Hey Jeff,

I read the entire study guide twice before it all became clear. After that it does become easier. You do need to learn Latin terms but for FLS 1502r exam purpose, our lecturer said something like you only need to know those like res mancipi (without English equivalents) The myunisa site is the best I've seen and the lecturer I had (Ms A. Bauling) was very attentive, patient and answered questions swiftly.

I suggest watching the tv show Rome. Its a bit risque but it gives you a visual of what Rome looked like at the time, culture and politics. It adds to the book and you get a better feeling of what you are actually studying.

I also suggest going through the study guide as often as possible and old exams papers are helpful.

Good luck

To understand Roman law you need to understand the culture. Although it was a bit inaccurate at times, my mother found that the TV show ROME helped her under stand Roman culture (and she passed with flying colours). Its a bit risque of a show but they are accurate about a lot of the facts. I use to study ancient Rome etc so I could verify a lot of the shows facts as correct. Go through your study guide as many times at possible and do old exam papers.

I hope this helps

when I learnt latin (Like I did for PVL3702 in semester 1) I felt like I was an extra in Spartacus

Use the summaries at the end of each chapter/diagrams. It gives u an idea what they are on about in the chapter. At first it can be confusing reading it straight. Activities n Question papers very important. Distinction a great possibility

A Latin word is not a must but you are required to familiarize yourself with a few because you will see them again in property
